Honors Whittier Resident: Rebecca Kubik

On Thursday, May 25th, the Columbia County Community, staff and residents of Whittier Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center and Whittier Place will join American Joint Care Foundation to honor “Whittier” resident Rebecca Kubik as “Volunteer of the Year.”

Ms. Kubik is a resident at Whittier Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center. Her fundraising efforts helped to raise funds towards a new wheelchair lift van to transport Whittier residents.

After moving to Whittier five years ago from Lake Katrine, Ms. Kubik began her volunteer work in Whittier’s Activity Department. She also enjoys helping “AJCF” with their fundraising efforts. “Meeting new people” is her favorite part of working with the organization.

“I like fundraising, it gives me something to do,” said Ms. Kubik. “I feel really good…I feel proud of myself.” She looks forward to her first ride on the “Happy Van” which is a trip to the movies with other residents to see “Boss Baby.”

American Joint Care Foundation “AJCF” is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving the community by raising funds for residential health care facilities and services. “AJCF” holds events throughout the year and generously donates a share of the proceeds to other non-for-profits located in the Columbia County Community.

The “AJCF”’s latest success is a grant funded 12-passenger van with lift which accommodates six wheelchairs or 12 ambulatory people for transport. The bus was acquired through a New York State Department of Transportation grant funded by the federal government.

Residents of Whittier Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center and Whittier Place Adult Home have worked together for the past year raising funds with bake sales, car shows, holiday celebrations and fairs. Ms. Kubik’s cheerful staffing of the raffle table at these events “have contributed immensely to our success,” said Eileen Pastore, Fundraising Consultant for “AJCF”. The new “Happy Van” was delivered to American Joint Care Foundation on March 24, 2017.

The party to honor Ms. Kubik will be held at 2pm on May 25, 2017 in the Activity Room Courtyard at Whittier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center, 1 Whittier Way, Ghent, NY 12075. There will be light refreshments.

The community is invited to attend. For more information call (518) 828-0800.
