Man Petitioning for Mayor Assaults Woman

On June 13, 2017, the Hudson City Police Department arrested 53 year old, Earl K. Swanigan of Hudson, NY on charges of Forcible Touching and Criminal Trespass 2nd Degree, both class A misdemeanors.

On June 7, 2017 the Hudson Police Department received a complaint of sexual abuse. The victim reported that on June 6, 2017 at approximately 10 -10:30am, the suspect, Earl Swanigan did enter her residence through an unlocked door without her permission. Swanigan was allegedly circulating a “Designating Petition” and told the victim that he was obtaining signatures in an attempt to run for Mayor of Hudson. The victim, who was home alone, stated Swanigan then made unwanted contact, forcibly touching her without her permission.

A criminal investigation was conducted by the Hudson Police Department. An Arrest Warrant was issued for Swanigan and he was arrested today at 11:48am.

Earl Swanigan was arraigned before Judge Brian Herman and was ROR’d (released on own recognizance). The defendant is scheduled to show up to Hudson City Court on June 15, 2017 at 830 am. A temporary Order of Protection was issued to stay away from the victim.

The Columbia County District Attorney’s Office assisted in this investigation.
