Cairo-Durham Middle/High School was in lockdown

Statement from Cairo-Durham school officials:

At approximately 12:20 p.m., Cairo-Durham Middle/High School went into lockdown because of an alleged threat made by a student. The lockdown was lifted at approximately 12:55 p.m. During the investigation, the student left the building and the school immediately contacted law enforcement and initiated a lockdown.

As a safety precaution, Cairo-Durham Elementary initiated a lockout, in which no one is allowed to exit or enter the building. Cairo Police were also present on campus as an additional security measure. The lockdown was changed to a shelter-in-place after the student in question was located by police.

The investigation is ongoing, and we commend the student who came forward with the information about the alleged threat.
