Winter weather returns

Winter weather is expected to return to the area today. The National Weather Service is predicting a larger snowfall than the Albany TV stations are. Here is what the NWS is forecasting, Channel 13's prediction is pictured below.

* LOCATIONS...THE EASTERN CATSKILLS...MID HUDSON VALLEY...

SCHOHARIE VALLEY...MOHAWK VALLEY...HELDERBERGS...CAPITAL

REGION... TACONICS...BERKSHIRES...AND LITCHFIELD COUNTY

CONNECTICUT.

 

* HAZARD TYPES...SNOW AND SLEET.

 

* ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATION OF 2 TO 5 INCHES FOR

VALLEY AREAS AND 4 TO 8 INCHES ACROSS THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS.

 

* TIMING...A MIXTURE OF RAIN, SNOW AND SLEET WILL SPREAD ACROSS

THE REGION LATE THIS AFTERNOON INTO THIS EVENING FROM SOUTH TO

NORTH. PRECIPITATION WILL PRIMARILY BECOME SNOW AND SLEET FOR

THE OVERNIGHT HOURS AND WILL BE MODERATE TO LOCALLY HEAVY AT

TIMES. PRECIPITATION WILL TAPER OFF ON TUESDAY MORNING.

 

* IMPACTS...SNOW AND SLUSH COVERED ROADS AND LOW VISIBILITY WILL MAKE

FOR HAZARDOUS TRAVEL. SIDEWALKS, DRIVEWAYS AND PARKING LOTS

WILL BE VERY SLIPPERY.  THE COMBINATION OF GUSTY WINDS AND WET

SNOWFALL MAY LEAD TO SOME LOCALIZED POWER OUTAGES AS WELL.

 

* WINDS...NORTHEAST 10 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 35 MPH. LOCALLY

HIGHER GUSTS TO 50 MPH POSSIBLE OVER THE TACONICS AND WESTERN

NEW ENGLAND.

 

* TEMPERATURES...IN THE LOWER TO MIDDLE 30S.
