Armed robbery in Hudson this afternoon

From Hudson Police:

Press Release – Armed Robbery – suspect in custody

At 4:08pm 02/10/17 a subject entered the lobby at HPD and reported there was a heavy-set male with a hand gun running in the area of 4th Street. Three minutes later we received via Columbia County 911 that the Five Star Market at 534 Warren Street had just been robbed at gunpoint.

HPD dispatched patrols to the area and were backed up by the Columbia County Sheriff and NY State Police. Officers organized a search with vehicles and on foot. At 4:19pm Columbia County Sheriff’s Investigators Pat Logue and Regan Anderson apprehended the subject near Prison Alley and North 5th Street.

HPD Detectives were dispatched and located a pistol in a snow bank in the 400 block of Prison Alley. Also located nearby was a black cloth allegedly used as a mask during the robbery. When Detectives retrieved the weapon, it was found to be a BB-gun (photo below)

The clerk at the Star Market was interviewed. He stated that the robber entered the store and brandished the pistol. He pointed it at the clerk and forced him to hand over cash from the register. He fled on foot. The total currency stolen is being determined, and some money was recovered on the defendant.

The subject is a 13 year old male. He will be charged with Robbery 2nd Degree. As a juvenile delinquent, he will be evaluated for placement in a youth facility pending possible action by the Family Court.

At this hour Detectives are still collecting evidence, and investigating a report that the subject pointed the weapon at pedestrians during his flight.“I observed some of the store video of this episode. It was very intense and must have been very frightening for the clerk.

The rapid deployment of our Officers with immediate response from the Sheriff and State Police wrapped this up quickly and safely. When someone introduces guns, or even look-alike guns into a situation, the outcomes can turn deadly. “ Chief
