Stockport man charged with Robbery

Kinderhook, New York – On March 14, 2017, New York State Police from the Livingston barracks arrested Phillip R. Schmidt, 23 years old, of Stockport, New York, for Robbery in the 1stDegree, a Class B Felony, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree, a Class D Felony.On March 13, 2017, Troopers were dispatched to investigate an armed robbery that occurred at Stewarts, located at 2931 State Route 9, in Kinderhook, NY. 

An investigation revealed that at approximately 11:15 p.m., Schmidt entered Stewarts through the rear door, brandished a knife and demanded money. The suspect received an undetermined amount of cash and fled the scene in a vehicle.The State Police were assisted by the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.Schmidt was arraigned in the Town of Greenport Justice Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail without bail. 

He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Kinderhook Court at a later date and time.
