Three accidents closed area highways this afternoon.
The first was on Route 9 in Red Hook, just over the Columbia County boarder, where a vehicle struck a utility pole, which landed on top of the car. Three people were injured in the accident. Clermont Firemen assisted Red Hook, by closing Route 9 at Lasher Road.
The Second accident was in Round Top. around 2:35, where two cars collided on Heart's Content road, by the Round Top firehouse. State Police have confirmed that one person died in that crash. The road was closed while accident re-construction teams work.
The third crash was at 4:45 on Route 66 in Claverack, where a vehicle struck a utility pole, breaking it and bringing down wires. The accident was at Stottville road. West Ghent firemen and Greenport rescue responded to the scene. Greenport firemen assisted with traffic, shutting down the road at Fish and Game Road. National Grid was also notified.
