SECOND ANNUAL SHERIFF’S OFFICE AND SEAN’S RUN CHILD SEAT EVENT

Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett announces that the Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with The Sean’s Run Memorial are planning A Child Passenger Safety Seat Check event to take place on Saturday April 15th, 2017 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm in the Price Chopper parking lot, located at 2614 Rt. 66 in Ghent. Parents and caregivers will receive one-to-one installation guidance and safety education from nationally certified child passenger safety technicians at no charge.

Child seats will be provided, (while supplies last), to low-income families who have a need for a child safety seat(s) and meet guidelines set by the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.

Guidelines to meet before a child safety seat is provided:

* Applicant must have his or her vehicle present

* Applicant must meet income eligibility requirements;

* Applicant must receive education on child passenger safety;

* Applicant must complete the manufacturer’s warranty card;

* Applicant must sign an agreement form and waiver of liability form.

The Child Passenger Safety Seat Check will coincide with Sean’s Run, which begins on April 30, 2017. This event looks to increase awareness about the problems of underage drinking and impaired drinking by attracting participants, spectators and media attention from across the capital region to a community event that encourages safe choices and hopes to reduce the numbers of teens who drink, drive while impaired, ride with a drunk driver or fail to use seatbelts. In addition to the 5K run portion of the event, there is also a bicycle ride and a battle of the belts competition.
