They're calling it "The Little Free Library" and they hope to encourage reading. A grand opening is planned for Saturday April 29th at Greenport Town Park from 10:30 to noon.
This is from their Facebook Page:
How this Little Free Library works: *Unlike a traditional library where you check out and return books, the idea here is to take a book and return a different book in its place if you can. This helps me (the steward) to keep the stock ever changing. If you happen to be here with no book to exchange, please, take a book anyway.
This Little Free Library is truly here to encourage reading and a sense of community. It's here for us to share books. *Please don't take the guest book.*Bookmarks, coloring pages, and reading buddies are for visitors to keep.*If there is room inside the Little Free Library, book donations are always welcome. They must fit inside the LFL though.
If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions message me on this Facebook page. *Like and follow this Facebook page for updates and news about the LFL. If you'd like to learn more about starting your own LFL, contact me or go to Little Free Library.org*Sherry
