Press release on Greenport Accident

SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATES SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY ACCIDENT

Greenport, NY- Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that on April 24, 2017 at approximately 3:52pm, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched by Columbia County 911 to a one vehicle accident on County Route 14, just east of Howe Road in the Town of Greenport.

Deputies found that a 2006 Honda Civic, operated by 71 year old Ah-Tua Teo of Hudson, was traveling eastbound on County Route 14 and for unknown reasons began to veer off the right side of the roadway and then the vehicle swerved abruptly to the left. The vehicle then crossed over the center of the roadway, struck and went under a guard rail on the south side of the roadway, down an embankment, where the vehicle overturned and came to rest on its roof.

The driver and sole occupant was entrapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle by Greenport Fire Department and Northern Dutchess Paramedics. A landing zone was setup at the Columbia-Greene Community College and Mr. Teo was airlifted to Albany Medical Center by Life Net 71for serious head, neck, and back injuries.

At this time, the investigation is continuing and Sheriff’s Investigators are looking into possible contributing factors for the accident. County Route 14was closed for approximately 2 hours during the investigation.

Northern Dutchess Paramedics, Greenport Fire Department, Greenport Police Department and the Columbia County Highway Department assisted at the scene.

Investigating for the Sheriff’s Office at the scene are Captain John DeRocha, Investigator Reagan Anderson, Deputy Thomas Merante, and Deputy Steven Rose.
