Claverack man arrested subsequent to domestic dispute

Claverack, New York – On April 26, 2017, New York State Police from the Livingston barracks arrested Michael J. Whittaker, age 36, of Claverack, New York, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree, a Class D Felony, and Menacing 2nd Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor.
At approximately 10:20 p.m., Troopers were dispatched by Columbia County 911 for a reported domestic dispute. The investigation revealed that Whittaker physically menaced the victim with a baseball bat. She was able to get away from the victim and contact 911 for assistance. The victim was not injured as a result of the dispute.
Whittaker was arraigned before Judge Brandon in the Town of Claverack Justice Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $1,500 bond. The defendant was scheduled to reappear in Columbia County Court on May 2, 2017.
