On May 1, 2017 at approximately 9:08 am the New York State Police in New Lebanon were dispatched by Columbia County 911 to a Robbery of a tractor trailer driver near the intersection of State Route 22 and State Route 295 in the Town of Canaan. 

Uniform and BCI from Lebanon, Livingston and Kinderhook barracks converged on the area where they commenced and intense investigation into the incident and search for the suspect.

It was reported that the truck driver was flagged down by an apparent disabled motorist. When the trucker stopped to assist, the suspect identified as Jeffrey Treffy, 39 of Sunnyside NY approached the tractor trailer where a struggle ensued.

The assailant was able to forcibly steal the victims cell phone before fleeing the scene. A BOLO for the vehicle and suspect description was transmitted out to all area Law Enforcement. Shortly after the incident an alert Trooper observed the suspect and vehicle on State Route 20 in New Lebanon.

Treffy was taken into custody without further incident and was charged with one count of DWAI Drugs and one count of Robbery in the 3rd degree, a Class D Felony. He was arraigned in the Town of Greenport Court where he was remanded to the Columbia County Jail without bail pending his next court appearance.
