Active Shooter drill at Taconic Hills Saturday

COLUMBIA COUNTY EMERGENCY SERVICES TO CONDUCT

ACTIVE SHOOTER DRILL

Hudson, NY- Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett announces that there will be a full scale active shooter training exercise at the Taconic Hills School Campus, located at 73 County Route 11A in the Town of Copake, on May 6, 2017 between the hours of 6:00am to 2:00pm. This drill will include response from state, county, and local emergency service agencies.

The drill is in coordination with Columbia County Safe Schools Committee, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Columbia County EMS, Columbia County Fire Service, Columbia County 911, Columbia County Emergency Management Office, New York State Emergency Management Office, Questar, Taconic Hills School District, Columbia Memorial Hospital, as well as other local and out of county law enforcement agencies. This is a collaborated effort to test training and response to this type of incident.

Residents and motorists may notice emergency vehicles during the 6:00am to 2:00pm exercise, which may include a medical helicopter, ambulances, fire trucks, and police cars on campus property and in the surrounding community.

Traffic control measures will be implemented the morning of the event. County Route 11A will be shut down from State Route 23 to County Route 11. There will be signs posted on both sides of County Route 11A indicating the road closure.

There will be no access to school grounds during the event times and all school activities during this time frame are cancelled.

There will be a designated press area for the drill. This area will be located in the northern most parking lot adjacent to the football field. The media can access the area from State Route 23 onto County Route 11A and then taking a left into the parking lot. Members from the press must have their credentials to enter the press area.
