Two arrested for felony drug possession in Canaan

 Canaan, New York – 

On January 12, 2019, the New York State Police from the Livingston barracks arrested Nicholas Dayal, age 30, of Stockbridge, MA, and Chelsea L. Ryll, age 31, of Ascutney, VT, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 2nd degree, a class A felony, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd degree, a class B felony, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 5th degree, class D felony, Criminal Possession of Marihuana in the 4th degree, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree, both class A misdemeanors. 

Dayal was additionally arrested for Tampering with Physical Evidence, a class E felony, and Obstruction of Governmental Administration, a class A misdemeanor.On January 12, 2019, at approximately 8:50 p.m., Troopers conducted a vehicle and traffic stop of a 2012 Subaru Legacy on State Route 22 in the town of Canaan for a violation of the vehicle and traffic law. 

While being interviewed, the operator later identified as Dayal, threw a bag of cocaine out of the vehicle. Investigation with the assistance of State Police K9 Graydon, discovered approximately 2 grams of cocaine, 87.1 grams of marijuana, 1.3 grams of heroin, 104.4 grams of 3,4-Methyl?enedioxy?methamphetamine (MDMA), 30.3 grams of Xanax, 40 grams of marijuana edibles, 0.8 grams of Vyvanse, 0.3 grams of Adderall, 26.5 grams of concentrated marijuana, 0.3 grams of Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine, 13 grams of Etizolam, and over $2,400.00 in U.S. currency.

Dayal and Ryll were arraigned before the town of Canaan Court, and remanded to the Columbia County Jail without bail. Both subjects are scheduled to appear before the Court on January 17, 2019, at 6:00 p.m.
