Hudson alderman to challenge Rick Rector for mayor

Press Release:

Hudson First Ward Alderman Kamal Johnson announced his candidacy for Mayor Wednesday.

Alderman Johnson grew up in Hudson, NY, and currently serves as chair of the Youth, Education, Seniors and Recreation Committee and the Police Committee on the Common Council.

He graduated from Columbia Greene Community College in 2005 and from SUNY New Paltz in 2007, with degrees in History and Early Childhood Education. Johnson also serves as Co-Director of Greater Hudson Promise Neighborhood, and is the coordinator of the POPS Fatherhood Initiative.

Recognizing the need for inclusive, equitable governance at a time when Hudson is rapidly changing, Johnson's campaign will prioritize bridging the intergenerational, cultural, and socioeconomic gaps that currently divide the city.

Alderman Johnson noted that his campaign will center around increasing housing access, pursuing economic and social justice, and making Hudson a place where all feel welcomed and valued. Of his campaign, Johnson said: “Over the next several months, I look forward to hearing from a wide range of community members, both those I know already and those I haven’t yet met - to hear from you directly about your experiences, ideas, and concerns.”
