Narrative of What Occurred:

On March 16, 2019, Saugerties Police responded to Route 32A, and George Sail Road, for a reported rollover motor vehicle crash.

Investigating Officers established that the registered owner, and operator of the vehicle, 24-year-old Bethany Hughes of Palenville, was operating a 2008 Nissan Altima northbound on State Route 32A, when she failed to negotiate the roadway, rolling her vehicle over.

Officers detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Hughe’s breath, and after administering field sobriety test Hughes was taken into custody and transported back to Saugerties Police headquarters, where Hughes refused to submit to a chemical test.

Hughes was processed and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test (Misdemeanors) in addition to the Felony of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the 1st, Degree.

At the time of the Crash, Hughes was operating her motor vehicle on a conditional license, which was issued incidental to a previous Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol conviction in January 2019.

Hughes was arraigned in the Town of Saugerties Justice Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in Lieu of $10,000 cash bail.
