Athens traffic stop turns up over 3 pounds of pot

Utica man arrested for possessing over 3 pounds of marijuana following a traffic stop on the Thruway.

Athens, NY – On March 22, 2019, at approximately 2:29 a.m., State Police stopped a vehicle on I-87 in the town of Athens for a vehicle and traffic violation. Upon interviewing the occupants, probable cause to search the vehicle was established. The driver, Samantha M. Segara, 19, of Utica, NY, was found to be in possession of approximately 2.8 grams of marijuana. The passenger, Xzavier T. Ross, 24, of Utica, NY, was found to be in possession of just over 3 pounds of marijuana.

Segara was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana and a Vehicle and Traffic Violation and released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Athens Court on April 4, 2019 at 3:00 p.m.

Ross was taken into custody and transported to SP Albany where he was charged with Criminal Possession of Marijuana 2th degree; a Class D Felony. He was arraigned before the Town of Athens Court and remanded to Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.
