Sad news in Hudson, as bald eagle killed by train

From Hudson Police:

Bad news for those of us who enjoy watching the bald eagle nests down by the river.

One of our birds was struck and killed by a train today. This immature eagle has a wing span of about 5 feet.

We contacted Officer Chris DiCintio who will examine the eagle and collect data for the Department of Environmental Conservation.

The DEC oversees a successful management program that has seen the population of eagles in NY grow from less than ten to hundreds of nesting pairs today.
