Albany Police Chief Meets with Protesters

A peaceful protest was held in Albany Monday afternoon over the death of George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis.

Protesters gathered at the corner of Livingston Avenue and Henry Johnson Boulevard and were met by Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins who spoke with protesters and kneeled with them to show his support.

At one point the protest seemed to have ended with organizers urging people to leave the area. However, protesters began walking through the city. Albany Police is shutting down intersections to ensure the group remains safe.

Henry Johnson Boulevard and Exit 6 of I-90 have also been closed throughout the day and it's unclear when they will reopen.
