Representative Lee Zeldin, the leading Republican candidate in next year's New York Governor's race, is announcing he was diagnosed with leukemia last year. The conservative lawmaker from Long Island issued a statement Saturday, saying he was diagnosed last November with early stage chronic myeloid leukemia, and began immediate treatment. The 41-year-old from East Meadow said over the last nine months he's achieved complete remission and expects to lead a normal life. Zeldin represents the eastern two-thirds of Suffolk Country and declared his candidacy for governor in April.
