Republican legislators in Albany County want the city of Albany to pay for the additional public safety costs the county has picked up since the beginning of the pandemic. All 8 of the county's republican legislators submitted a resolution that the city use some of its 80 million dollars from the American Rescue Plan to reimburse the Albany County Sheriff's office for the increased patrols and services they provided. Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan disagrees and says taxpayer dollars should already cover county services.
