Upstate New York is gearing up for another day of intense heat, with temperatures expected to feel like 90 to 100 degrees today (July 29) and tomorrow. The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories for the region, highlighting the potential dangers of extreme heat. Actual temperatures are forecast to reach the mid-80s in Central New York, upper 80s in the Southern Tier and western New York, and mid-90s in the Capital Region and Hudson Valley.

According to NEWS10 ABC, the heat advisory is in place for most of the Capital Region and Hudson Valley. The National Weather Service defines a heat advisory as when the heat index is predicted to feel like 95 to 99 degrees for two or more consecutive days or 100 to 104 degrees for any length of time.

Extreme heat is a leading cause of weather-related deaths in the United States, claiming over 1,000 lives annually. The NWS warns that excessive heat can cause serious health issues, particularly for at-risk populations such as older adults, children, pregnant women, and those with chronic medical conditions.

Residents are advised to take precautions, including staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous activities during peak heat, and seeking air-conditioned environments. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas for those working outdoors.
