From Cairo Police:
Press Release:...Date: 07/26/2017
The Town of Cairo Police Department announces that they have made an arrest in connection with their investigation into the damaged Hometown Heroes banners on Main Street. The Hometown Heroes banners are small banners that honor the military service of community residents. They are attached to and displayed from telephone and light poles in various locations around the town.
A few days ago, it had been reported that several of the banners had been damaged and the Cairo Police began their investigation. On Tuesday July 26th, 2017, Cairo Police arrested a local 17 year old male and charged him with felony criminal mischief. He was arraigned before Cairo Town Justice Tanya Sirago and released on his own recognizance pending a further court appearance. His identity is being withheld pending youthful offender status. The suspect admitted that he turned himself into police and took responsibility for his actions because of the immense community interest and pressure surrounding this case.
