Whittier press release on skin condition

Press Release from Whittier:

For Immediate Release

Whittier Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center was given the all clear by the Columbia County Department of Public Health after staff raised concern of possible rash.

Ghent, NY – Last week a caregiver noticed minor yet irregular redness on the skin of a long term care resident. After being examined at Albany Medical Center, the resident returned to the facility later that day with a clean bill of health. The staff at Whittier Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center maintained a diligent watch throughout the week keeping all residents in mind as they monitored the area of skin. In an effort to maintain the highest standards for all residents in the building, epidemiology specialists were requested to perform tests over the weekend.

The results from all tests performed were negative, thus ruling out any environmental or biological contaminants that could be in any way considered infectious or contagious. The building and all of its residents were officially declared clear and safe by the NY Department of Health with any and all precautions lifted.

The building is accepting new admissions as well as regular visitors. Whittier Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center would like to extend a thank you to all for cooperating with us during our investigation, and a thank you as well to outside agencies for the role they played and for their participation.
