Faso Announces Grant Awards forLocal Fire Districts
Washington, D.C. - Congressman John Faso (R-Kinderhook) today announced the award of critical Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFGs) to 19th District fire companies by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Congressman Faso said, “The value of the services provided to Upstate communities by our local fire companies and first responders cannot be overstated. These brave men and women risk their lives day in and day out to keep their neighbors safe, and I believe it is imperative that they have access to the most up-to-date equipment to carry out their jobs effectively. I am happy to congratulate Claverack Fire District, Milan Volunteer Fire Department, Richfield Springs Fire Department, Hoosick Falls Joint Fire District, and Stuyvesant Falls Fire District on this welcome news.
”First Assistant Chief George Keeler, A.B. Shaw Fire Company, Claverack Fire District added, “This grant will enable the Claverack Fire District to replace outdated and obsolete Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) for the firefighters without an increased burden on the local taxpayers. This AFG program grant will allow the Fire District to increase the margin of safety for the firefighters with minimal impact on the local budget. We appreciate this great news from Congressman Faso and look forward to continuing our service to the Community.
”These awards are Fiscal Year 2016 Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFGs) issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) under DHS. The purpose of the AFG Program is to award grants directly to fire departments, nonaffiliated Emergency Medical Services (EMS) organizations, and state fire training academies to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public, as well as that of first-responder personnel. Using a competitive process that is overseen by fire service subject matter experts, grants are awarded to applicants whose requests best address the priorities of the AFG Program.
