57 year old Ricardo Mercado plead guilty today to criminal contempt and stalking, in Columbia County Court. These are the charges he would have gone to trial with in November.

On September 28, 2017, Ricardo Mercado was convicted by plea, as indicted, of three (3) Criminal Contempt in the 1st Degree; two (2) Counts of Criminal Contempt in the 2nd Degree; and two (2) Counts of Stalking in the 3rd Degree, Honorable Richard M. Koweek presiding. The Court will sentence Ricardo Mercado on November 6, 2017. The New York State Police investigated this matter and arrested Ricardo Mercado. Taghkanic, New York – On June 4, 2017, New York State Police from the Livingston barracks arrested 57-year-old Ricardo Mercado of Claverack, New York, for Criminal Contempt in the 1st Degree, a Class E Felony. On June 4, 2017, a Taghkanic woman reported that Mercado went to her home on June 3, 2017 in violation of an active order of protection. Mercado was located at his home on June 4, 2017 and placed in custody. Mercado was arraigned in the Town of Claverack Court before Judge Brandon and was remanded to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. The defendant is scheduled to appear in the Town of Taghkanic Court on June 8, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. Mercado was additionally arrested on June 1, 2017 and charged with Criminal Contempt 2ndDegree and Stalking 4th Degree, both Misdemeanors. Mercado was arrested for following the victim on Healey Boulevard in his vehicle in violation of an order of protection and causing her to fear for her safety. The defendant was arraigned in the Town of Claverack Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.

Livingston, New York – On September 25, 2017, the New York State Police from the Livingston barracks arrested Ricardo Mercado, age 57, of Claverack, NY, for Criminal Contempt in the 1st Degree, a Class E Felony, Stalking in the 3rd Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor, and Reckless Endangerment in the 2nd Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor. Troopers responded to a domestic dispute on State Route 9 near County Route 10 in the town of Livingston. Investigation revealed that Mercado had violated a full stay away order of protection already in place. Mercado was arraigned before the Town of Livingston Justice Court on September 25, 2017, and remanded to the Columbia County Jail without bail.
