Man accused of assaulting Columbia County Sheriff's deputy

SHERIFF’S OFFICE ARRESTS CHATHAM MAN FOR ASSAULTING DEPUTY

Chatham, NY- Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 7:02pm, Deputies responded to assist the Village of Chatham Police Department on Main Street for a report of multiple disorderly subjects who were causing a disturbance.

During this incident, Deputies assisted Chatham Police who were attempting to take one subject into custody and subsequently arrested a second disorderly individual who attempted to prevent the arrest.

Deputy Sheriff’s Jordan Brahm and Peter Merante arrested 23 year old Jaquan A. Hamilton of Chatham on charges of Assault in the Second Degree (Class D Felony), Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree (Both Class A Misdemeanors), and Disorderly Conduct (Violation). The defendant caused physical injury to one of the Deputies while they were attempting to place the subject in custody.

Arraigned in Chatham Village Court by the Honorable Judge Simonsmeier, Hamilton was remanded to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail and $50,000 bond. He will appear back in court on October 13, 2017 at 10:00am.

Also, assisting at the scene were the State Police and Village of Chatham Police.
