Stuyvesant man dies in Stockport accident


Stockport, NY- Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that Sheriff’s Patrols were dispatched by Columbia County 911 at approximately 6:22pm this evening to a one vehicle accident on State Route 9J, just north of Day Road, in the Town of Stockport.

Deputy Sheriff’s found that a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck, operated by 45 year old Robert D. Jennings of Stuyvesant NY, was traveling northbound on State Route 9J and for unknown reasons went of the east side of roadway striking a utility pole. The vehicle continued down a slight embankment and overturned twice coming to rest upright on its wheels. Mr. Jennings was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no passengers in the vehicle and this accident is still under investigation by Sheriff’s Deputies and Investigators.

Coroner Blasl is also assisting with the investigation and there is an autopsy scheduled for Tuesday morning at Ellis Hospital.

State Route 9J was closed for about 2 hours.

Valatie Rescue Squad, Stockport Fire Department, Stuyvesant Fire Department, and the New York State Police assisted at the scene.

Investigating for the Sheriff’s Office were Undersheriff John Davi, Lieutenant Wayne Lopez, Senior Investigator Mark Dunspaugh, Investigator Anthony Brahm, Deputy Patrick McMahon, and Deputy Steven Rose.
