Coxsackie traffic stop turns up Heroin

Coxsackie, NY –

On March 1, 2018, at approximately 2:50 a.m., State Police stopped a vehicle on I-87, in the town of Coxsackie for a vehicle and traffic violation. During the interviewing of the driver and passenger Jakeem A. April, age 32, of Schenectady, NY probable cause to search the vehicle and its occupants was established. During the subsequent search of the vehicle, (2) baggies containing Fentanyl weighing approximately 11.3 grams and 10.8 grams were located along with approximately 11.2 grams of Heroin, approximately 500 empty glassine envelopes, an unknown cutting agent for heroin and 4 grams of Marihuana were all located in the vehicle.

The driver and passenger were taken into custody, transported and processed at SP Albany, where they were subsequently charged with:

  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd degree; a Class B Felony (with intent to sell) 3 counts, April only
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 4th degree; a Class C Felony (3 counts, April only)
  • Criminal use of Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd degree; a Class A Misdemeanor (2 counts, April only)
  • Unlawful Possession of Marihuana; a Violation (April only)

April is currently awaiting arraignment in the Town of Coxsackie Court. No bail information or return court date available at this time. The driver of the vehicle was issued tickets for vehicle and traffic violations and released.
