Ghent turns 200 today

The town of Ghent turns 200 today. A year long celebration begins with special postmarks at the Ghent Post Office on Route 66:

Bicentennial Kick-Off

Tuesday, April 3, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

The Town of Ghent will begin a series of yearlong town-wide celebrations in honor of its Bicentennial with a special postmark at the Ghent Post Office. Town historian, Gregg Berninger, will be at the Post Office to answer historical questions. Historical photos will also be on display, and special celebratory cookies will be served.

The Town of Ghent will begin a series of year long town-wide celebrations in honor of its Bicentennial on Tuesday,April 3, 2018 with a special postmark at the Ghent Post Office, 2354 NY-66,Ghent NY 12075 from 8:30am – 4:30pm. 

Town Historian, Gregg Berninger,will be at the Post Office to answer historical questions. Historical photos will also be on display, and special celebratory cookies will be served.

Earlier in February, new Bicentennial banners were installed along Route 66 in the Hamlet of Ghent. A series of historical walking tours will be scheduled during the summer (dates TBD) for those interested in learning more about the buildings and landmarks of Ghent. 

On October 12th a Historian Talk will take place at the Kenneth H. Wilbur VFW Banquet Hall 2237 Route 66 in Ghent.

On Saturday, October 13th a Community Day celebration is scheduled and will include a parade, food, fun, historical displays and fireworks.Named for a peace treaty that brought the War of 1812 to a close, and reestablished America’s independence from Great Britain, the Town of Ghent was formally established on April 3, 1818.
