Copake, NY- Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that on April 16, 2018 at approximately 9:22am, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched by Columbia County 911 to a one vehicle accident on State Route 22, just south of Weed Mine Road in the Town of Copake.
Deputies found that a 2012 Freightliner tractor with empty trailer, operated by 53 year old Meyette Howard of Altamont New York, was traveling southbound on State Route 22 and strong wind gusts on the “Copake Flats” went underneath the trailer causing it to flip on its side and down an embankment on the west shoulder of the roadway. The truck is owned by Power Pallet Inc. from Amsterdam New York.
The operator and sole occupant of the tractor trailer was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital by Community Rescue Squad for back pain.
State DOT responded to the scene and closed State Route 22 in the area of the flats from about 9:28am to 5:20pm due to the weather conditions.
Community Rescue Squad and Copake Fire Department assisted at the scene.
Investigating for the Sheriff’s Office at the scene are Undersheriff John Davi, Lieutenant Wayne Lopez, 1st Sergeant John Rivero and Deputy Joseph Kilmer.
