DEPUTIES SIEZE APPROXIMATELY 153 GRAMS OF COCAINE DURING
Austerlitz, NY- Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that two Massachusetts residents were arrested on Saturday April 21, 2018 for drug charges after a vehicle stop on State Route 203 in the Town of Austerlitz.
On April 21, 2018 at approximately 6:31pm, K9 Deputy Travis VanAlstyne was on routine patrol and observed a 2014 Acura traveling on State Route 203 with dark tinted side windows. The Deputy performed a traffic stop and approached the vehicle where he encountered two occupants: a female driver and a male passenger. The Deputy smelled a strong odor of marihuana coming from within the vehicle.
The female driver, a Jessica Fitzgerald, was operating the motor vehicle with a suspended license and she was found in possession of a straw that contained cocaine residue. A small quantity of marihuana was also found in the car.
A further search of the male passenger, a Lindsey Cobbs, led Deputies to the discovery of approximately 153 grams of cocaine with a street value of about $15,000.
Both parties were transported back to the Sheriff’s Office for processing. During further interview with the female driver, she was found to possess 5 Oxycodone pills, which are a controlled substance that she did not have a prescription for. She had indicated the she was traveling from New York City to Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
Lindsey D. Cobbs, 25, of Pittsfield MA., was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree (Class A Felony) and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree (Class B Felony).
Jessica J. Fitzgerald, 26, of Pittsfield MA., was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree (Class A Misdemeanor), Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree (Class U Misdemeanor), Unlawful Possession of Marihuana (Violation), and having illegal side-window tint (Traffic Infraction).
The two defendants were arraigned before Judge Brandon in Claverack Town Court. Mr. Cobbs was remanded to the Columbia County Jail with no bail. He is scheduled to appear in Austerlitz Town Court on April 27, 2018. Ms. Fitzgerald was remanded to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail/$2,000 bond. She will appear in Austerlitz Town Court on May 2, 2018.
Assisting K9 Deputy Travis VanAlstyne were Sergeant Jeffrey Hofstetter, Deputy Thomas Merante, Deputy Zachary Sohotra, and Investigators of the Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement and Education Unit. Also assisting with this case were the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office and State Police K9 Officer Louis Godfroy.
