Scary accident in Austerlitz- Car submerged in stream
DEPUTIES RESPOND TO A VEHICLE SUBMERGED IN A CREEK
Austerlitz,NY- Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that on April 27, 2018 at approximately 4:15pm, Deputy Sheriff’s were dispatched by Columbia County 911 to a one vehicle accident on County Route 7, just south of State Route 203 in the Town of Austerlitz.
Deputies found that a 2004 Mercedes Benz E500, operated by 74 year old Susan Newton of Spencertown, was driving northbound on County Route 7 and for unknown reasons went off the east side of the roadway striking a guard rail, continuing down an embankment and coming to rest in the Punsit Creek.
Mrs. Newton complained of chest pain. There was one passenger in the vehicle, 75 year old Harold Newton, who had some minor lacerations to his arm and leg. Both occupants were treated at the scene by Chatham Rescue Squad but declined transport to the hospital.
Chatham Rescue Squad and Austerlitz Fire Department assisted at the scene.
