DEPUTY SHERIFF’S INVESTIGATE PERSONAL INJURY ACCIDENT IN GHENT
Ghent,NY- Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that on May 1, 2018 at approximately 12:45pm, Deputy Sheriff’s were dispatched by Columbia County 911 to a two vehicle personal injury accident on State Route 66, at the intersection with Sherman Potts Road in the Town of Ghent.
Deputies found that a 2013 Toyota Venza, operated by 74 year old Jane Szafran of Hudson NY, was driving northbound on State Route 66 and made a left turn onto Sherman Potts Road, crossing into the path of a 2017 Ford F250 pick-up truck. The truck, operated by 25 year old Anthony Martino of Ghent, was traveling southbound on State Route 66 and struck the Toyota in the southbound lane. The impact caused the Toyota to go off the west side of the roadway and come to rest on a section of concrete curbing. The truck also went off the east side of the roadway where it struck a guide wire for a NYSEG utility pole causing a transformer box to drop to the ground.
Ms. Szafran complained of neck and back pain from the crash. She was transported to Albany Medical Center by Greenport Rescue Squad. Mr. Martino suffered some facial injuries and was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital by Greenport Rescue Squad. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
The investigation is continuing and tickets are possible.
Greenport Rescue Squad, West Ghent Fire Department, Greenport Fire Department and Stottville Fire Department assisted at the scene.
