Grand Marshal announced for Flag Day Parade

The Hudson Flag Day Parade is just 5 weeks away, and the parade committee is very excited to announce another Grand Marshal for the June 9th event.

Ralph Avery is a decorated 93 year old WWII veteran and Hudson native.

Ralph was in the first wave during the invasion of Normandy at Omaha Beach on June 6th, 1944. A Navy gunner aboard the LCT 571. Ralph’s most recent honor was receiving the French Légion d’Honneur, one of world’s most prestigious decorations with a tradition that goes back over 200 years to Napoleon Bonaparte. France’s highest decoration was established by Napoleon in 1802 to recognize individual merit rather than birthright. The Chevalier (Knight) medal insignia is awarded for excellence in military conduct and only delivered upon official investigation. Soldiers fighting with the Allies during WWII have been among the international military honorees earning the honor for their bravery and sacrifices to the people of France."
