SHERIFF’S OFFICE CHARGES TWO SUSPECTS IN LIVINGSTON BURGLARY

Livingston, NY- Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that his office arrested two Greenport residents in connection with a Burglary that occurred in the Town of Livingston.

On September 26, 2017 at approximately 3:08pm, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched by Columbia County 911 to a report of a suspicious vehicle that had just left a residence on State Route 9G in the Town of Livingston. The owner of the residence contacted 911 after returning home and finding the vehicle in the driveway. The owner was able to provide a description of the vehicle, which included the registration information that led Deputies to later locating the suspicious vehicle in the Village of Philmont.

The investigation revealed that 27 year old Brock Miles and 30 year old Katherine Hopper, both of Greenport, entered a home in the Town of Livingston and had stolen items from inside. Their 2 year old child was left in the vehicle while they committed the burglary. All of the stolen property was recovered and both were arrested.

Brock Miles was arrested and charged with Burglary in the Second Degree (Class C Felony), Petit Larceny and Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Both Class A Misdemeanors).

Katherine Hopper was arrested and charged with Burglary in the Second Degree (Class C Felony), Petit Larceny and Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Both Class A Misdemeanors). In addition, she was charged in the Village of Philmont with Tampering with physical evidence (Class E Felony), Resisting Arrest, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, and Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree (All Class A Misdemeanors).

The Village of Philmont charges are related to Hopper’s contact with Deputies after the vehicle was located. Both defendants were arraigned in the Town of Claverack before the Honorable

Judge Michael Brandon and remanded to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $500 bail and $1,000 bond. They are scheduled to appear in Livingston Town Court on September 29, 2017 at 9:00am.
