Dangerous Chemicals removed from old Hudson Police Station

posted by Bill Williams -

From Hudson Police:

There was some police activity behind our old station at 427 Warren St. this morning. As we continue to inventory/remove/surplus items, 4 extremely old gallon jugs of ether were discovered in the basement.

We think maybe they were once used in developing film in the stations old darkroom. Perhaps they were left over from our previous tenants, New York Telephone.

As the substance could be quite flammable, we called on help to safely remove it. The detail which consisted of the New York State Police Bomb Disposal Unit, Hudson City Fire Department, AB Shaw Fire Company, and Greenport Rescue Squad carry out the mission with no threat to the neighborhood.

We thank them for their expertise. The liquid was destroyed at a local gravel bank.
