Overturned Kayak in Saugerties

Location of Incident: Esopus Creek above the dam.

Narrative of What Occurred:

On July 9, 2018 at 6:29PM Saugerties Police were dispatch to The Dimond Mills for a kayaker in distress.

Upon arriving units observed a male with an overturned kayak on the east side of the upper Esopus by the falls. Officers went down on to the dam and made contact with the subject.

Due to the current, officers were unable to make it down to the east side of the dam on foot. Ulster County Sheriffs swift water/dive team was called out and responded. Sheriffs deputy’s were able to respond quickly to the upper creek with the department inflatable Zodiac boat.

Pentony was pulled out of the water and transported to the Saugerties Village Beach. Diaz was on site waiting for the subject. He was evaluated and released. Pentony was up in Saugerties visiting his sister who lives on South Partition St by the beach. Units were assisted by UCSO Dive Unit, Village of Saugerties FD, Diaz and Ulster Hose Water Rescue,
