12 YOUNG PEOPLE FROM COLUMBIA COUNTY ATTENDED THE
SHERIFFS’ SUMMER CAMP THIS YEAR
Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett announces that 12 children from Columbia County attended the 2018 New York State Sheriffs' Association Institute’s Summer Camp last week. The Sheriffs' Summer Camp is designed to provide a solid recreational program combined with the development of a sense of good citizenship. This year marked the 40TH year of the camp's operation.
The Sheriffs' Summer Camp, which is located near Penn Yan in Yates County, is supported by the Sheriffs' Association's Honorary Members through their contributions and annual dues. This year the camp accommodated over 900 girls and boys from across New York State. “This is a great opportunity for our county youth and I personally want to thank Columbia County residents for donating and making this possible,” said Sheriff Bartlett.
This year’s attendees were: Hannah Stalker, Mia Mulch, James D’Alessio, Jacob D’Alessio, Juliana Boughton, Morgan Boughton, Jacqueline Hunter, Robert Hunter, Cole Krein, Alec Krein, Olivia Jahoda and Victor Pinho. Confidential Assistant Rebecca Milone coordinated the selection and administration of the children from Columbia County schools.
Deputy Sheriff’s and camp counselors work to create a positive experience for the young people who go to the camp. Throughout the week-long stay, the camp attendee’s will participate in and observe special exhibits and demonstrations presented by Sheriffs’ Offices from across the State, including D.A.R.E. presentations, boat and bike safety programs, law enforcement equipment and technical demonstrations, archery competitions multiple sporting events and a talent show. Upon completion of their stay, all children will be awarded a diploma for their participation in a program of “Good Citizenship and Law Enforcement Studies.”
Sheriff Bartlett said, “We have found from past experiences that the kids develop a renewed respect and understanding for the men and women who enforce the laws, the deputies become their friends.”
