New York Man Sentenced to 3 Years in State Prison for Endangering the Welfare of a Child

November 4, 2013

Acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp announces the sentencing of Scott R. Sudds, age 26, of Greenville, New York. Mr. Sudds had pled guilty to Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a crime of the third degree, and was sentenced to a term of three years New Jersey State Prison, subject to Parole Supervision for Life and Megan’s Law. Mr. Sudds is to have no contact with the victim in this case pursuant to a Nicole’s Law Restraining Order and is also required to pay restitution in the amount of $283.55 and $1705.00 in mandatory fines and penalties.

The investigation began in July of 2012, when law enforcement officers from the Lincoln Park Police Department learned that the defendant had contacted the alleged victim, a 15 year-old child, electronically and telephonically for sexually explicit purposes. The investigation resulted in a member of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes Unit communicating directly with the defendant in an undercover capacity.

On September 6, 2012, the defendant was arrested in Lincoln Park, New Jersey after he attempted to meet with a 15 year old child to have sexual relations. At the time of the arrest, the defendant was found to possess a computer, digital camera, handcuffs, two rifles, and ammunition.

Supervising Assistant Prosecutor/SDAG Meg Rodriguez represented the State at the sentencing.

Acting Prosecutor Knapp thanks Police Chief Mark West and the Lincoln Park Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit for the efforts resulting in today’s sentence.
