HPD Officer rescues dog in hot truck, owner arrested

From Hudson Police:

HPD responded to a call from a citizen on the upper level of the CMH parking garage at 1:45pm yesterday. The caller stated there was a dog locked in a truck "going crazy".

Officer Nick Hodges arrived and found a blue 2006 Chevy Silverado pickup parked in the direct sunlight with a medium sized pitbull mix in the truck. No windows open. The animal was barking excessively, and was panting.

Officer Hodges noted the outside temperature reading from his patrol car indicated 90 degrees. CMH Security paged for the owner in side the hospital, and as Officer Hodges attempted to unlock the truck, the owner arrived on scene. The dog had apparently been left in the truck for approximatelty one hour.

The operator of the vehicle, Frank D. Lopicollo, 65 years old of Hunter, NY was arrested for "Confinement of an animal in a hot vehicle" Section 353-D of the Ag Markets Law. He is due in Hudson City Court on 09/11/18 at 8:30am.

HPD has responded to over 40 similar calls since the beginning of last summer (2017).
