SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATES MILK TANKER ACCIDENT
Ancram, NY- Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that at about 2:58 pm today, Columbia County 911 dispatched Sheriff’s Deputies to an overturned 18 wheel milk tanker on State Route 82, just south of Finkle Road, in the Town of Ancram.
Deputies found that a 2013 Peterbuilt tractor and milk tanker trailer, operated by 36 year old Ronnie J. Hare of Poughkeepsie New York, was traveling in a southerly direction on State Route 82 and lost control of the tractor trailer when it went off the right shoulder of the roadway. The tractor trailer then overturned, rolling over two times before coming to rest on its side.
The operator had neck, chest, and abdomen injuries and had to be extricated from the truck by Ancram Fire Department and Community Rescue Squad. Mr. Hare was airlifted by Lifenet to Albany Medical Center. There were no passengers in the tractor trailer.
The tractor trailer is registered to Staats Transporting Inc. from Milan New York and the tanker trailer had approximately 30,000 pounds of milk, which all spilled out onto the ground.
The accident is still under investigation and State Route 82 is still closed while a tow agency works to remove the tractor trailer.
Community Rescue Squad, Ancram Fire Department, and Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
Investigating for the Sheriff’s Office were Captain John DeRocha, Sergeant Brian Molinski, Investigator Ian Boehme, Deputy Zachary Torchia, and Deputy Daniel Keyser.
