Claverack teen arrested on Felony Sex Charges


Greenport, NY- Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that Sheriff’s Office Investigators arrested Michael Burke, 16, of Claverack, NY, on Tuesday September 18, 2018 at 9:55 am. Burke has been charged with Criminal Sexual Act in the first degree, a class B Felony under the NYS Penal Law.

The Sheriff’s Office was notified of the allegations after receiving a report of child abuse or neglect from the Child Abuse Hotline. Deputy Ryen Boehme began the investigation and then turned the case over to the Sheriff’s Office Special Victims unit.

Burke is accused of performing oral sex on a person that is less than 11 years old. The alleged act was reported to have been committed in the town of Greenport on August 26, 2018.

Mr. Burke was arraigned before Claverack Town Judge Michael Brandon. Burke was remanded to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash or $2,000 bond. Burke was ordered to return to Greenport Town Court on September 21, 2018 at 9:30 am.

The Columbia County District Attorney’s Office and the Dr. Stephen and Suzanne Menkes Child Advocacy Center assisted with this investigation.
