Major Route through Athens to be closed all weekend

Travel Advisory: Watch for Closure at Route 385 and Howard Hall Road in Athens, Greene County, This Weekend

Motorists are advised to watch for roadwork and a closure this weekend at Route 385 and Howard Hall Road (Greene County Route 53) in the town of Athens, Greene County.

Vehicles will be detoured away from the junction of the two roads starting at Friday at 7 p.m. A detour will be posted using Route 23, Route 9W and Route 385. Work necessitating the closure is expected to be completed by Monday, Oct. 22, at 6 a.m.

It is imperative that motorists remember to drive carefully in work zones, for their own safety and the safety of workers.

Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
