Thieves breaking car windows to steal, may be an East Coast gang

Warning to shoppers.

The past couple of days there has been a rash of car break ins.

The areas that have been hit has been Rennselear,Columbia and Dutchess Counties.

The suspects are taking items that have been left in plain view. They are breaking the glass and taking what they can see. Please do not leave valuable items in your vehicle. If you must ,leave it in your trunk area out of sight. Please report any suspicious activity to your local police department.

Vehicle Break-Ins

The Red Hook Police Department responded to Poets Walk in the Town of Red Hook for a reported theft from a parked car. It was discovered that the window was smashed out and a purse was taken from within.

This was not an isolated incident. Similar thefts have taken place at Bard College and in Rhinebeck. The suspects are believed to be using a punch tool to gain entry into the vehicles. ... Suspect(s) look for vehicles where contents are left visible in the front seats. There are several other communities that are dealing with the same type of vehicle break-ins.

This type of activity is typical of a group known as the “Felony Lane Gang”, which has known to be active in our area from time-to-time. They are a group that is known to operate throughout the East Coast.

We urge all residents to please be aware of leaving any personal items in your vehicles. If you see anything or anyone suspicious please do not hesitate to call the Red Hook Police Dept at 845-758-0060
