Nobody was injured this afternoon, after an Ichabod Crane bus ended up on a soft shoulder of Stockport Road and became stuck. The Columbia County Sheriff's Office investigated, and confirmed there were no injuries to the 21 students, who were put on another bus and transported home.
The school district issued this statement on their website:
Bus Incident After Dismissal, No Injuries - December 6, 2018
(December 6, 2018) We want to let the community know about an incident with one of our school buses that occurred after the half-day dismissal today. The bus did not negotiate a turn correctly and slowly ended up on the soft shoulder of the road, where it then got stuck. All 21 of the K-8 students and the driver on board were not injured.
Following district procedures, all 21 students stayed on board until ICC Transportation Supervisor, Dan Doyle, arrived on the scene with a second bus. Once at the scene, Mr. Doyle determined all the students were uninjured. Following this, law enforcement concluded this to be a non-reportable incident because there were no injuries and no property damage.
All the students were moved onto the new bus and then Mr. Doyle personally finished driving the route himself. At each bus stop after the incident, he informed the parents present about what had occurred. Parents not present at bus stops were called to inform them of the incident.
Again, no students or District personnel were injured. Should you choose to have your own family doctor examine your child, we ask that you please let us know if they find anything. As always, the health and safety of our students is our highest priority.
