DEPUTY SHERIFF’S INVESTIGATE SERIOUS ACCIDENT IN CLAVERACK
Claverack,NY- Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that on December 14, 2018 at approximately 7:41 am, Deputy Sheriff’s were dispatched by Columbia County 911 to a two vehicle automobile accident with serious personal injury that had occurred on State Route 23in the Town of Claverack.
Deputy Sheriff’s found that a 1996 Buick operated by 17 year old Jessica Spencer of Copake who was attempting to turn around pulled into the path of a 2011 Ford operated by Amanda Baird of Hillsdale NY, who was traveling westbound on State Route 23. The collision caused the Spencer vehicle to leave the highway rolling over. Spencer had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Craryville Fire Department with the Jaws of Life. No other passengers were in either vehicle.
Albany Life Net helicopter was called to the scene to transport Spencer to Albany Medical Center where she remains in critical condition, Baird was transported by the Greenport Rescue Squad to Columbia Memorial Hospital, she was treated and released.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation by Sheriff’s Office Investigators along with members of the Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team.
State Route 23 was closed from 7:56 am until 10:41 am between County Route 11 and Martindale Road.
Assisting on the scene was Craryville Fire Department, Philmont Fire Departments, Greenport Rescue Squad,Community Rescue Squad and the NYS Department of Transportation. .
