If Your Dog Eats Halloween Candy

'Tis the season for CANDY! Chocolate especially. With a natural sweet-tooth, dogs often find the smell of chocolate irresistible. If your dog gets their paws on it there could be some serious consequences. Chocolate is toxic for dogs, but the amount they consume, and the size of your dog, is what you want to worry about if your pooch gets into the Halloween treats. Small dogs are most at risk. If you find your dog in the treat stash, or know they ate it within a few hours of finding them, induce vomiting immediately, using hydrogen peroxide. It is recommended that every pet owner keeps a syringe and a bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide in their dog’s first aid kit. With the correct concentration of hydrogen peroxide, pet owners can safely induce vomiting themselves without causing any harm. If you find your dog already vomiting take them to an emergency clinic immediately.

If you’re not sure whether the amount they ate is dangerous, call the ASPCA Poison Control or your veterinarian first.
