Delgado wants to connect with the people in New York as lieutenant governor

According to Mid-Hudson News,

ALBANY – Congressman Antonio Delgado (D, NY-19) will be sworn in as the state’s new lieutenant governor before the end of the month, Governor Kathy Hochul said Tuesday as she introduced the Rhinebeck resident to the public.

The governor expects the June 28 primary election to stand barring any legal challenges.

A date for a special election to fill Delgado’s House seat must be called within 10 days of his appointment, followed by that election.

The state faces many challenges as it emerges from COVID-19, and Delgado said it is a time to heal.

“After two years of COVID, over two years, intense isolation, distance from one another, we need to reconnect and strengthen our collective bond as New Yorkers,” he said. “We need to heal together and put humanity back into our interactions with one another, and I want to be part of that healing process.”

Delgado said having grown up in Schenectady, having spent much of his professional life in New York City and now living in the Mid-Hudson Valley, he wants to treat the state as one.

State Assemblyman Kevin Cahill (D, Kingston) said Delgado’s appointment “was a strong choice” by Governor Hochul. Cahill said in Delgado’s two terms in Congress “has already made a positive reputation for himself in the halls of Washington while demonstrating here at home that he is accessible, available and appro0achable to everyone in the 19th Congressional District.”

Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson (D, Newburgh) said Delgado “has been an effective, hardworking congressman and has delivered for his district.”
